Further £10,000 presented to Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance

Committee Chairman Rick Hall with Lincolnshire &
Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance Fundraiser Barry Daff

Members of the organising committee of the hugely successful BRM Day, held last October, gathered on Wednesday evening to present a cheque for £10,000 to Barry Daff, local volunteer fund raiser, on behalf of the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. Chairman of the BRM Day Committee, Rick Hall, said, “With this further presentation we have so far been able to donate a total of £50,000 to the two charities benefitting from the event, the Air Ambulance and Bourne Outdoor Pool. The commemorative DVD of the day, which is available through the BRM Day website continues to bring in further funds which in due course will provide further donations to both charities. It is somehow appropriate that we make this donation today for only in the last fortnight the Air Ambulance landed in Bourne twice to bring vital assistance to sick and injured persons. I could also say, that with the current hot spell, the Outdoor Pool has also brought relief to many people!”

Barry, in accepting the cheque on behalf of the Air Ambulance said, “The Air Ambulance is totally funded by voluntary donations and we are really overwhelmed by the donation of £25,000 from BRM Day. It is to the credit of, not only the organising committee, but also the whole town of Bourne, who so wholeheartedly embraced the event and helped make this magnificent donation possible. For a town of its size, the people of Bourne must be amongst the most generous in Lincolnshire in their support of our cause”.

Further £10,000 Donation made to the Bourne Outdoor Pool

Under a beautiful clear blue sky, reminiscent of BRM Day itself, the committee were delighted to attend the official opening of Bourne Outdoor Pool on Saturday 25th May and to be able to present a further donation of £10,000 to the Pool Committee. BRM Day Chairman, Rick Hall, said “With today’s donation we have been able to donate £25,000 to the Pool which together with a generous donation of £15,000 from The Len Pick Trust has paid for urgently needed repairs to the structure of the pool and will ensure the continued existence of this wonderful facility for the town for many years. When we started to plan BRM Day we decided that our event would not only celebrate the BRM & Graham Hill’s victory in 1962 but also had to provide a significant community benefit. Today is part of the delivery of that benefit. We are so lucky to have the Pool in Bourne and we are delighted that the event has helped to ensure that it will continue to be part of the fabric of our town for many years to come. We are also delighted that we will be shortly presenting a further cheque for a similar amount to the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. To raise a total of £50,000 for our two nominated charities from the event has really exceeded our wildest hopes”.

Mandy Delaine-Smith, Chair of the Pool Committee said, “I just don’t know what to say, at the end of last season we knew we had a big problem with the floor of the Pool, we knew what needed to be done but it was just beyond our resources and then thanks to BRM Day and the Len Pick Trust, here we are without sounding corny – firing on all cylinders! It’s just unbelievable and we are so grateful”

BRM Day DVD CoverThe organisers of the hugely successful Bourne BRM Day, held last October which attracted a crowd over of 25,000 to the town, are delighted to announce that production of a commemorative DVD of the day has now been completed and will be available for sale from Saturday 23rd March.

Rick Hall, Chairman of the event’s organising committee said, “The DVD has been compiled by the committee utilising footage taken on the day by enthusiasts who have freely donated to the project and is interspersed with interviews of some of the personalities so important to the story of BRM. We not only wanted to produce a permanent reminder of the event but also capture something of the fantastic community spirit which the event engendered and I think that we have achieved this”. The DVD lasts for 56 minutes and also includes an additional bonus feature comprising a large collection of magnificent atmospheric still photos showing some of the ‘behind the scenes’ shots of the day as well as photos of the action.

The sale of the DVD will commence at the offices of Stephen Knipe & Co at 1a Abbey Road at 9.00 am on Saturday 23rd March with a promotional launch and thereafter will be available for purchase on the BRM Day website (www.brmday.co.uk) at a cost of £12.00 including postage and packaging as well as being available from a number of shops in the town for direct purchase at a cost of £10.00. The entire proceeds from the sale of the DVD will be shared between the two main charities that have already benefited from the event. The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool have each received interim donations of £15,000 and it is expected that these amounts will be increased substantially upon completion of the project.
